MONTPELIER, VT -- MARCH 25, 2025 -- The Vermont Democratic Party (VDP) has elected Jonathan West of Manchester, Vermont, as its new Interim Party Secretary. He succeeds Representative William “Will” Greer, who was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in November and is stepping down after more than two years of leadership. Most recently, West has served as the Interim Chair of the Bennington County Democrats and Chair of the Manchester Democrats. West is a seasoned software architect with over 15 years of experience leading international development teams, building innovative tools to enhance engagement, collaboration, and productivity. He is also a committed community leader, serving as Chair of the Manchester Housing Task Force and a member of the Manchester Selectboard, where he focuses on inclusive governance, workforce housing, and economic opportunity for all Vermonters. West and his husband, Thomas, are proud parents to four adopted children through foster care. As lifelong advocates for educational equity and LGBTQIA+ rights, they champion the principle of Acceptance Through Visibility.
“It’s an honor to be elected as Interim Secretary of the Vermont Democratic Party,” said West. “This is a time for us to pull out all the stops. The role of Secretary is more than taking minutes and counting votes—it’s about building infrastructure to communicate our shared Democratic values and victories across the entire state. It means revitalizing our connection to our town and county committees and providing more tools and resources than ever. But most importantly, we must do more to connect to Vermont voters, connecting them to the events and organizations in their local community in every corner of Vermont.”Interim Chair Jim Ramsey said, “I am delighted that Jonathan is stepping into the role of VDP Secretary. I know he shares our vision to make the VDP a community where every person, every town, and every county feels that they truly belong. He has done just that in Southern Vermont, organizing and leading local Democratic town committees and addressing the critical issues facing citizens as an elected member of the Manchester Selectboard.” Ramsey continued, “Jonathan will play a key leadership role: helping to create and deploy the tools necessary for our county and town Democratic committees to be successful—which means better coordination, better turnout, and better outcomes.”
Vermont Democratic Party Executive Director May Hanlon also welcomed West to the leadership team, stating, “Jonathan’s deep commitment to Vermont communities and his experience in both technology and grassroots organizing make him the right person to step into this role at a crucial time. The Vermont Democratic Party is focused on expanding voter engagement, strengthening local committees, and ensuring we have the infrastructure to win. Jonathan will be instrumental in helping us achieve those goals. As Interim Secretary, Jonathan will ensure that Democrats in every town and county have the resources, tools, and support they need to organize effectively. By improving our communication and outreach, we can better connect Vermonters with the Democratic Party and with one another—because when we work together, we win together.”
